My name is Rich Cutshaw and I decided to seek the position of State Representative for Michigan’s 42nd District. My motivation for this is the State Government’s complete disregard for our constitutional liberties and the lack of any form of leadership coming from our current Representative (Hall).
I grew up in the Otsego and Plainwell area and I graduated from Plainwell High School in 1999. My wife Elizabeth and I have been married for seven years and have six children between us.
This is my first attempt at a political position and the experience, thus far, has been surreal. It began last year when my wife and I spearheaded a lawsuit against Vicksburg Community Schools on behalf of terrorized students for allowing boys in girls bathrooms and locker rooms.
I am currently the owner and operator of First & Last Freight line, a trucking company serving the Midwestern area states.
This is my Great Grandfather several generations removed. Preserving the Republic must be in the blood.
This year, the Michigan legislature passed the largest budget in the States history. A large problem lies with the States inability to fund the budget moving into 2024. This problem is exasperated further if the income tax roll-back continues into 2024. The Governor and Attorney General are trying to eliminate our tax break by saying it was only for 2023.
We could potentially lose our tax reduction at the same time the legislature is dolling out corporate welfare payments at record levels.
Considering all the money spent, Michigan representatives did not set aside enough funding to cover the pension benefits earned by government employees. Not paying down the pension debt costs taxpayers addition money in interest.
Our Representatives let us down by passing this budget and jeopardized the future of many programs (ie road funding and public safety).
The reckless spending Has really burdened the everyday taxpayer. Millions spent on pet projects like pickleball courts, fitness centers and even $50 million for an undisclosed project in Detroit.
The Second Amendment is one of principles this great nation was founded on. It was ratified on December 15, 1791 with the other items in the Bill of Rights.
People often mistake the 2nd Amendment as one that limits the rights of the people. In fact, it is quite the opposite. The 2nd Amendment should be free from obstruction from the government. The 2nd Amendment is in place to protect the citizens of the United States from a tyrannical government. My position is that the 2nd Amendment is not to be touched by the government and I will fight to preserve it when elected to the legislature.
"Mandatory storage" laws passed by the House (including several Republicans) are, in my opinion, unconstitutional because your home is your safe storage and the government has no business telling you how to protect you and your family.
"Red Flag" laws passed in 2023 are a huge overstep by our state government. In their attempt to create a gun registry, they've allowed the seizure of law abiding citizens firearms without due process.
In just twenty-seven words, the Second Amendment solidifies one of America’s most fundamental freedoms — the right to keep and bear arms. But what is the Second Amendment? And how does it protect you as an American? Here are the facts.
Our veterans are the greatest among us. Their sacrifices should, in my opinion, enable them to obtain special privileges. Michigan resident are, as you know, already overtaxed due to the ridiculous spending habits of the legislature. I support a plan that would provide our service members with free park passes, fishing licenses, hunting licenses as well as all motor vehicle fees.
Veterans services locations should be run by veterans and not bureaucrats. It's time we start listening to those who've had the life experiences we could only imagine.
This world a better place because of your courage, sacrifice, and dedication to our country. I have no words for how much that means. This is the greatest country in the world. I say thank you for all you have done in the name of freedom.
This republic will crumble if we continue to lose faith in the accuracy of our election results. Last year dozens of new election laws were passed in an effort to make voting "easier". These efforts have done nothing to re-assure the public that our elections are secure. I support a single day for elections with absentee voting as necessary. Additionally, the information acquired via subpoena, by the legislature, relating to the 2020 election must be released to the public.
